Essay #3

SRC

The curve of the stone wall stretched out before me,

Undulating grayness broken only by a dancing shadow.

Menacing and frightening pictured by a disrupted glow,

But the only scene I ever could study,

Trapped in place by unseen bonds.

Day by the sun's rays and night by the moon's beam,

I contemplated the distorted image,

Whether the figure was mild or savage.

But never had I the chance to glimpse,

The mystery in full light, agleam.

Then, one day, I was set free,

After a flicker of hope and curiosity,

And I could not resist the urge to turn.

Whirling, I looked to the mouth of the cavern,

No longer was the animal alarming,

My view not twisted by darkness finally.

Instead of fangs and horns and sharpened claws,

I beheld a simple creature with no such flaws.

As gentle and sweet as could possibly be,

But changed dark and chilling in the cave's corrupt reality.

So what truly is the greatest question?

The enigma life is to all of us humans?

Nothing we see on a wall of stone,

Is real truth - that remains mostly unknown.

That is not hidden under the blackest of clouds,

Rather, it is discovered in the blinding light,

By only those whose spirits are just as bright.
